What is the maximum size and weight for a parcel at a pickup point in France?

Will your box be accepted? The weight and size each network takes at pickup points, lockers and post offices, and how to measure your parcel.

Short answer

The maximum weight of a parcel at a pickup point depends on the carrier and where you drop it off, and lockers take smaller parcels than pickup points. Colissimo at a post office: 30 kg, 150 cm for the sum of the three sides, including 100 cm in length (La Poste). At a Vinted Go locker: 15 kg maximum (Vinted). Details by carrier in the table below.

Mondial Relay and GLS: figures taken from business terms and conditions. For a private individual's shipment, see also Mondial Relay's terms of sale. If in doubt, the carrier's rule at the time of drop-off applies.

The lowest figure wins: your parcel must meet the weight, the length and the sum of sides, packaging included. A light box that is too long may be refused.

How to measure a parcel: the two formulas

Measure the closed box with a tape measure. The length (L) is the longest side, then come the width (W) and the height (H). Depending on the carrier, the limit applies to one of these two formulas.

Sum of sides: L + W + H

This is the formula used by Colissimo (La Poste), Mondial Relay and GLS in the terms cited above. It is also called the "développé" of the parcel in French.

Length plus girth: L + 2 × W + 2 × H

Other carriers add the length to the girth of the parcel (twice the width plus twice the height). The result is larger than the simple sum: check the exact formula in the carrier's terms, for example Chronopost or UPS.

Example: a 50 × 40 × 30 cm box

The same 50 × 40 × 30 cm box measured with both formulas
FormulaCalculationResultSource
Sum of sides50 + 40 + 30120 cm-
Length plus girth50 + 2 × 40 + 2 × 30190 cm-

With a 120 cm sum and a 50 cm length, this box is within Colissimo's limits at a post office (150 cm, 100 cm in length). For a carrier that uses length plus girth, compare 190 cm with its own limit.

Pickup point, locker or post office: different limits

A parcel locker has compartments of fixed sizes. A parcel accepted at a pickup point counter may therefore not fit in a locker of the same network. At Mondial Relay, Locker limits differ from Point Relais limits: see the terms of Mondial Relay.

Volumetric weight: when does it count?

Volumetric (or dimensional) weight converts a parcel's volume into a weight. Some carriers, especially express services, charge the higher of the two: actual weight or volumetric weight. For a private individual's shipment via a pickup point, we found no official rule at Mondial Relay, Colissimo or Vinted.

If you are sending a light but bulky parcel, see the carrier's terms, for example Chronopost on La Poste's business site.

My parcel is over the limit: what happens?

  • Colissimo: between 150 and 200 cm for the sum of sides, a surcharge applies; above 200 cm or 30 kg, the parcel is refused (La Poste). Surcharge amount: see the same page.
  • Mondial Relay: a parcel that does not fit in the planned Locker is handled according to the carrier's terms: see the terms of Mondial Relay.
  • GLS: a non-compliant parcel is handled according to its terms and conditions.
  • Vinted: the help centre explains what happens with an item that is too big and how to choose the right weight.

Your options: choose a network that accepts your format, go through a post office, or split the shipment into several parcels.

Wrong declared weight or size: the risks

A parcel heavier or larger than what you paid for may be refused at drop-off, sent back or charged extra, depending on the carrier's terms. Weigh the closed parcel and choose the next weight band up if in doubt. To pick the right band, compare shipping prices by weight.

Packing a heavy or bulky parcel properly

  • A box suited to the contents, with no empty space: fill gaps with paper.
  • Weigh and measure the closed parcel, packaging included.
  • Stick the label flat, on the largest side.
  • No string or tape over the barcode.
  • Take a photo of the closed parcel before dropping it off.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum weight of a Mondial Relay parcel?

According to the Start business terms of January 2026, 30 kg at a Point Relais, with a 120 cm length and a 150 cm sum of sides (Mondial Relay terms). For Lockers and for a private individual's shipment, see Mondial Relay's terms.

How do I calculate the L + W + H sum of a parcel?

Measure the closed box and add up its length, width and height. A 50 × 40 × 30 cm box comes to 120 cm. Some carriers use length plus girth (L + 2 × W + 2 × H): 190 cm for the same box.

Can I send a 30 kg parcel via a pickup point?

Yes with some networks: Colissimo at a post office, Mondial Relay at a Point Relais and GLS, according to the terms cited in the table. At lockers, the limits are lower (15 kg at Vinted Go).

What parcel size for Vinted Go?

At a locker, three sizes: XS (80 × 175 × 380 mm), S (80 × 300 × 380 mm) and M (180 × 300 × 380 mm), 15 kg maximum (Vinted).

What happens if my parcel is over the size limit?

Depending on the carrier: a surcharge, refusal at drop-off or redirection to another point. At Colissimo, a surcharge between 150 and 200 cm for the sum of sides, refusal above that. See my parcel is over the limit.
